Deep Thoughts with Bubby: Thankful in the Thick of It
Earlier this week, I was sittin’ on the couch wrapped up in Meemaw’s old quilt (yeah, the one that smells faintly like cedar and butterscotch candies) when I realized I hadn’t done much of anything in days besides cough, nap, and wonder how one human body can hold so much sinus pressure without explode-in’. Clementine was curled up on the other end with Pickle sprawled across her lap like he was tryin’ to keep her from floatin’ away. We looked like two sad potatoes bakin’ under a heat lamp at the Texas Roadhouse.
Normally, I’d be hootin’ and hollerin’ about what’s happenin’ around town, yappin’ about events, or stirrin’ up some big ol’ story for the week… but truth be told? We really ain’t had a whole lot to talk about, ’cause we’ve been doin’ somethin’ we hardly ever do: slowin’ down long enough to catch up with what’s really happenin’ in our lives.
And somewhere between the neverending supply of cold meds from Meemaw’s cabinet, Strawberry cough drops, and Pickle’s extremely aggressive snoring, it hit me: I’m sure grateful in a way that doesn’t need fireworks or fanfare. I’m grateful for the folks who’ve checked in, offered soup, and sent silly videos of Pickle while we were out in Swampville last week just to make us smile.
Gratitude don’t always come wrapped up in big ole moments. Sometimes it shows up real quiet-like, sittin’ beside you on a tired Monday mornin’, remindin’ you that even when you’re worn down to a nub, you’re surrounded by people who make those hard days softer.
So yeah, this past week’s been messy, sniffly, slow… but goodness gracious, it’s been fulla heart. And that’s somethin’ worth bein’ thankful for right in the thick of it.
What’s somethin’ you’re truly thankful for this week? It can be new friends you’ve made this year, a new talent you’ve discovered, or that you got a new place to call home after not havin’ one for so long. Just reply back, we’d love to hear from ya. 🫶🏻
