Worn-out but Warm-hearted

Even sniffly noses and slow days can hold more gratitude than we expect.

BIG SNIFF, Heya neighbor. Happy Monday!

Did the cold getcha with the sickness too? I shouldn’t’ve put that Down with the Sickness link in the last issue, karma got me good there.

Anyway, we’re keepin’ things a little softer on the porch this week. After all the travelin’, we finally made it back home a little wobbly and worn down, but mighty grateful to be here in the Scenic City again.

It’s one of those weeks where the world seems to slow itself down for ya, just long enough to remind ya what actually matters: warm meals, kind neighbors, soft places to land, and the folks who show up for you even when you’re movin’ at half-speed.

So pull up a chair, pour yourself something warm, and let’s settle in together for a gentle little Thanksgiving edition of Chattynooga.

Today's Issue Includes:

Care for some tunes while ya read along? No worries if not! We’re just might grateful you’re here with us today.

Our Community Spotlight This Week: Roundabout North Chattanooga!

Heya folks!

A brand-new online community called Roundabout North Chatt is getting ready to open its digital doors, and about 80 neighbors have already signed up to help us test drive it!

This platform is built for locals, by locals within Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy, and Hixson, and totally free to join. No endless scrolling, noisy feeds, or “the algorithm has decided you need 12 videos of raccoons today.” Just real folks sharing what’s goin’ on around town with events, important questions gettin’ answered, recommendations, and neighborhood updates that’s all in a space designed to help neighbors actually connect.

If you live or work in Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy, or the Hixson area, we’re lookin’ for just a few more testers to hop in before the full rollout. You’ll be among the very first to help shape this new local hub and make sure it feels cozy, helpful, and downright neighborly.

Wanna join the early crew? Jump on the waitlist, friend. You’ll be given access quicker than you can send a car through Home Folks (jokes aside, please don’t do this again 😭)

Deep Thoughts with Bubby: Thankful in the Thick of It

Earlier this week, I was sittin’ on the couch wrapped up in Meemaw’s old quilt (yeah, the one that smells faintly like cedar and butterscotch candies) when I realized I hadn’t done much of anything in days besides cough, nap, and wonder how one human body can hold so much sinus pressure without explode-in’. Clementine was curled up on the other end with Pickle sprawled across her lap like he was tryin’ to keep her from floatin’ away. We looked like two sad potatoes bakin’ under a heat lamp at the Texas Roadhouse.

Normally, I’d be hootin’ and hollerin’ about what’s happenin’ around town, yappin’ about events, or stirrin’ up some big ol’ story for the week… but truth be told? We really ain’t had a whole lot to talk about, ’cause we’ve been doin’ somethin’ we hardly ever do: slowin’ down long enough to catch up with what’s really happenin’ in our lives.

And somewhere between the neverending supply of cold meds from Meemaw’s cabinet, Strawberry cough drops, and Pickle’s extremely aggressive snoring, it hit me: I’m sure grateful in a way that doesn’t need fireworks or fanfare. I’m grateful for the folks who’ve checked in, offered soup, and sent silly videos of Pickle while we were out in Swampville last week just to make us smile.

Gratitude don’t always come wrapped up in big ole moments. Sometimes it shows up real quiet-like, sittin’ beside you on a tired Monday mornin’, remindin’ you that even when you’re worn down to a nub, you’re surrounded by people who make those hard days softer.

So yeah, this past week’s been messy, sniffly, slow… but goodness gracious, it’s been fulla heart. And that’s somethin’ worth bein’ thankful for right in the thick of it.

What’s somethin’ you’re truly thankful for this week? It can be new friends you’ve made this year, a new talent you’ve discovered, or that you got a new place to call home after not havin’ one for so long. Just reply back, we’d love to hear from ya. 🫶🏻

Clementine’s Corner: Thanksgiving Thoughts

Listen. Y’all wanna know the truth? I know it’s Thanksgiving and I should be all grateful and what not, but I’ve been having a hard time lately. I’ve feelin pretty mad lately. Everything feels upside down, inside out, and like I’m riding backwards on a three-legged-pony. I’m EXHAUSTED!

I was sitting there kinda just stewing the other night, telling Bubby all about how tired I am of people making me mad (and/or annoying the living daylights outta me) all the stinkin’ time. And you know what he said, y’all?

“FUGGEDA BOUT IT, BUD!” (Seriously. I don’t know who let him watch The Godfather but I’m here for insightful mobster Bubby.)

After we quit laughing about Bubby’s Falcone impression, he got real serious. He looked me square in the face, the way he only does when he’s reeeaaaal serious.

“Now, don’t ya go lettin’ ‘em get ya down. Yer CLEMENTINE DADGUM MCBRIDE, and ya get to decide where yer energy goes.” I mean… 🤯🤯🤯, right?

I GET TO PICK WHERE MY ENERGY GOES! It doesn’t do me any good to worry about what other people think about me. I know me, and I think I’m pretty darn great, thank you very much.

So this Thanksgiving, I’m choosing to be grateful instead of bitter. I’m protecting my energy and focusing on loving the people around me well. I’m thankful to be here in Chattanooga surrounded by people and places I love, and I’m gonna enjoy that this season!

I hope you get lots of turkey, stay away from arguments that drain your energy, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Monday’s a Startin’, but we’re right wit’cha bud!

As the dishes get washed, the leftovers get tucked away, and the couch gets a little extra cozy on Thanksgiving, we hope you find a quiet moment to breathe and feel proud of makin’ it through another wild week with all your crazy family members. Even when life’s been a bit of a handful (and goodness knows it has), there’s always somethin’ or someone worth holdin’ close.

Thanks for spendin’ the start of yer holiday week right here with us on the porch. We’re grateful for ya, truly, and hope your days ahead are full of rest, warmth, and the kinds of small joys that stay with ya long after the plates are cleared. We’ll see ya next week, good and rested, ready for whatever December brings our way.
